Architecture and choices
Privacy first
No account, no email or password, no central server collecting anyone's cards. Your data lives on your device — the one exception is a backup you start yourself, never automatic.
Native on both platforms, not hybrid
iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin/Compose) are two separate codebases, each idiomatic to its own platform, instead of one shared codebase via a cross-platform framework — twice the maintenance work, but the result actually behaves and feels like a real native app on both systems.
No official logos, on purpose
Reproducing registered store trademarks without authorization is a legal risk — THYKO recognizes the merchant and generates a color and pattern instead of the official logo, unless you add your own photo of the card.
Manual backup, not continuous sync
A single file you export and restore whenever and wherever you choose — not an always-on cloud account running in the background. Consistent with the idea that your data stays yours.
Built together, in color
THYKO is a project for two. The colors are the work of my partner, Claudia — left to my own devices, this would've shipped in black, with the kind of design only an engineer could love. I'm only half joking. We're also its first users: between the two of us we've tried just about every loyalty-card app out there and never found one we actually liked, so in the end we just built our own. We hope it turns out useful to plenty of other people too.
